The 48-year-old actress recalled witnessing her mother get beaten when she was a child while being honoured at the unite4:good's unite4:humunity gala.
Although Halle Berry has kept silent about the horrific domestic abuse she witnessed during her early childhood, the Oscar-winning actress recently felt compelled to share her harrowing experiences while attending a charity event Los Angeles.
Berry recently recalled seeing domestic abuse in her childhood home
Berry recalled frequently seeing her mother by physically attacked by her stepfather at Thursday night's unite4:good's unite4:humunity gala, where she was honoured for work as a volunteer at the Jenesse Center, the oldest domestic violence intervention program in Los Angeles.
"I'm a victim of domestic violence," she said in front of the star-studded audience at The Beverly Hilton in California. "I wasn't married to a man that beat me up, but my mother was."

Berry described how she witnessed her mother get beaten "day after day after day" when she was just 5-years-old. The 48-year-old actress saw her get "kicked down stairs" and even get hit in the head with a wine bottle.
"Knowing that she wanted nothing more then for her little girls to see her be empowered and be a woman of strength, but having no way to make that happen was heartbreaking for me," Berry said.
Unfortunately, this horrific abuse lasted for a lengthy period of time. "She stayed for too long and her children, my sister and I, saw far too much and I've suffered the damage of being a child of domestic violence," she continued.

2015 marked the fifteenth year Berry has been working with the charity organization.
"The reason I say this organization is my heart and soul is because I understand the good that it does and the lives that it changes and the impact it has on women and the children in our community," she said.
