The Weinstein Company and Miramax have united for a new co-production deal to begin working on the follow-up to 'Shakespeare In Love' starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
A sequel to 'Shakespeare in Love' may be developed.
The Weinstein Company and Miramax have reportedly united for a new co-production deal to begin working on the follow-up to the 1998 Best Picture Oscar winner starring Gwyneth Paltrow.
Harvey Weinsten told Deadline: ''I personally have never made a sequel, but I will make 'Shakespeare in Love' as one. I've always wanted to do that and now we have the impetus to.''
In addition to 'Shakespeare' in love, the movie mogul also revealed he has his sights set on follow-up to Matt Damon's 1998 film 'Rounders', which explored the underground world of high-stakes poker.
He added: ''I've discussed making 'Rounders 2' with Matt Damon and I would say that's going to be instantaneous.''
Weinstein remained tight-lipped on the plot but assured fans that writers David Levien and Brian Koppelman have been brainstorming ideas.
He said: ''The guys have a great idea, a way to make it more international where you start the card game in Paris ... that's all I want to say.''
It is reported the multi-year deal may also see classic films from the Miramax catalogue such as 'Good Will Hunting', 'Flirting with Disaster' and 'Swingers' adapted into television series.
Miramax was founded by The Weinstein Company co-chairmen Bob and Harvey Weinstein, but they ended ties with the company in 2005.
