Gwyneth Paltrow is known for her passion for healthy eating and Hello! magazine has revealed the rather dramatic moment that led her to making sure that her children no longer eat any carbs. Now, this might sound like a spot of parental neurosis on Gwynny’s part but actually, it’s doctor’s orders that have lead her to omit the hard-to-digest foodstuffs from her kids’ diets.

Talking about the incident that led to the lifestyle change, in her new cookbook It’s All Good, Paltrow explained “One sunny afternoon in London, in the spring of 2011, I thought - without sounding overly-dramatic - that I was going to die… I had just served lunch in the garden at home… I had a vague feeing that I was going to faint, and I wasn't forming thoughts correctly. "I got a searing pain in my head, I couldn't speak, and I felt as if I couldn't breathe, I thought I was having a stroke.” It turned out to be a nasty combination of a migraine and a panic attack and doctors discovered that the Hollywood actress was not only severely anaemic but had a vitamin D deficiency, too. For three weeks, she was banned from eating a variety of foods, including “eggs, sugar, shellfish, deepwater fish, potatoes, tomatoes, bell pepper, eggplant, corn, wheat, meat and drinking coffee.”

Talking about banning carbs for her kids, she says “Sometimes when my family is not eating pasta, bread or processed grains like white rice, we're left with that specific hunger that comes with avoiding carbs.” Still, she maintains that she’s against feeding her family carbs, insisting “Every single nutritionist, doctor and health-conscious person I have ever come across…seems to concur that (gluten) is tough on the system and many of us are at best intolerant of it, and at worst allergic to it.”
