Gerard Butler has been undergoing treatment for addiction at a rehab centre. According to Tmz.com, the 300 star is being treated at the Betty Ford clinic. It's thought that the reason for Butler seeking treatment is addiction to prescription drugs and that that addiction may have begun as a result of the painkillers that he took during the filming of 300.
Tmz reports that Gerard struggled with the physical demands of the role and a subsequent pain management program. Whilst he was filming Of Men and Mavericks, the problem was exacerbated when he suffered a surfing accident on December 18, which landed him in hospital. He was dragged underwater by large waves and a safety patrolman rushed to his aid. A source has told Tmz that Butler has decided to enter the Betty Ford addiction treatment program before the problem evolves into a "full-blown addiction." It is thought that the 42 year-old actor will be leaving the Betty Ford clinic soon.
Gerard Butler was born in Paisley, Scotland and his Hollywood acting career began with minor roles in films such as the James Bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies and Russell Mulcahy's Tale of the Mummy. His big break came in 2007, when he played the role of Spartan King Leonidas in 300.
