Clooney and fellow lawyer Jared Genser met with former president Mohamed Nasheed earlier this week (beg07Sep15) after he was charged with terrorism and sentenced to 13 years in jail.

The Indian Ocean nation's first democratically elected president's case has been taken on by the pair, but after the two-hour meeting the lawyers allege they received a phone call informing them that officials were already aware of what was discussed.

Genser tells British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, "It is the most flagrant breach of the fundamental right of a defendant to be able to have confidential discussions about sensitive information about his case."
