Michelle MacLaren, the producer and director on Breaking Bad, is in negotiations to direct the Wonder Woman spin-off movie, starring Gal Gadot. The Warner Bros DC Comics movie has a tentative release date on June 23, 2017.

Plot details for Wonder Woman remain scarce, mainly because Gadot's character will make her first appearance in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which opens in March 2016. It's likely that the events of that movie - which also stars Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck - will likely determine the angle of the standalone film.

There have been several attempts to get a Wonder Woman movie off the ground in recent years and Avengers director Joss Whedon most recently flirted with the project before pursuing other options. Now, Warner Bros has bet big on the DC slate and, as well as Wonder Woman, will introduce new movies focusing on The Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and more.

MacLaren is predominantly a television producer and director, but a heavyweight producer and director, certainly. She made her name working on hugely successful shows like Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, though it is her work on Breaking Bad that is most impressive. Using cinematic techniques, MacLaren helmed some of the best episodes of the meth-drama - most notably To'hajiilee, Buried and Gliding Over All.

According to sources, Greg Silverman, the Warner Bros EVP of Production and Development, has always been a fan of MacLaren's television work and has been searching for the right movie project for her.

Gadot is expected to star in two more Justice League movies in addition to Dawn of Justice and the Wonder Woman spin-off.
