Foals are coming with new album 'What Went Down'
The Oxford quintet have been working in the South of France for the recording of this album, taking on the unlikely setting of a 19th century mill as artistic inspiration. They teamed up with a new producer, Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford who has previously worked with the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Klaxons and, most recently, Mumford & Sons.
As the album title may suggest, 'What Went Down' focusses on the inner turmoil of society's individuals, exploring their anxieties and desperation about the world around them but amplified on a more intense scale. 'I wanted to tap into my inner madman and feel like I was channelling some sort of fevered creature', says frontman and songwriter Yannis Philippakis. You can listen for yourself on Tuesday (June 16th 2015) as the title single makes its premiere on Annie Mac's Radio 1 show.
'What Went Down' follows 2013's 'Holy Fire'; an Australian chart topper which also came in at number two in the UK where it was certified Gold. Featuring singles such as 'Inhaler' and 'My Number', the album gained huge global acclaim upon release, seeing them nominated for a Mercury Prize for the second time, following 2010's 'Total Life Forever' which they recorded in Sweden. Their debut album, entitled 'Antidotes' was an instant hit in the UK, and saw them working alongside producer Dave Sitek in Brooklyn's Stay Gold Studios.
