FKA Twigs Opens Up About Receiving Racist Abuse On Twitter

FKA Twigs, in a recent interview, described the “numbness” she feels when seeing racist abuse aimed at her on social media. The singer is engaged to actor Robert Pattinson and much of the abuse she receives is from warped and obsessive fans of the Twilight actor.

FKA Twigs opened up about receiving racist abuse and described her relationship with Robert Pattinson as "amazing".

FKA twigs, whose real name is Tahliah Debrett Barnett, opened up about dealing with racial abuse on Twitter and other social media during any interview for the June/July cover of Complex.

“I wouldn’t say I’m completely numb to it now, but there’s definitely a numbness there,” twigs said of the racist abuse.

It was first reported the 27-year-old British singer was in a relationship with Pattinson last September and the couple announced their engagement in April. Pattinson was previously in a long-term relationship with his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart. The majority of the abuse twigs has received on Twitter comes from Pattinson obsessed Twilight fans who seemingly see Pattinson and Stewart as physical embodiments as their characters, Bella and Edward.

Twigs responded to the abuse directly and wrote a statement on Twitter in which she described her ‘shock and disgust’ at the racist comments directed at her.

“I am genuinely shocked and disgusted at the amount of racism that has been infecting my account the past week. Racism is unacceptable in the real world, and it’s unacceptable online,” twigs tweeted after receiving a barrage of abuse.

In the interview, twigs also shared how “amazing” her relationship is, showing that although she’s not entire “numb” to the comments, they’re not going to damage her relationship.

“It is pretty horrible,” twigs said in the interview. “But ultimately, I’m in an amazing relationship. So it doesn’t matter.”
