Some films aren’t appreciated in their time, and go on to become cult films. Some movies are so bad, they’re good, and people just love to hate them – a la The Room or Birdemic – but some films are just plain bad. They’re so bad, the critics are merciless, and the investable box office crash that ensues can set actors’ careers back a few years.

Getaway seems to have fallen into the latter category: an awful film that no one will actually begin to ironically like in years to come. There’s always the chance they could, but films that really try to be cool tend to get tossed on the pile labeled ‘Monte Cristo that was bad.’

We like how the critics didn’t hold back:

“Getaway is an awful picture -- gawky, moronic, and dull. Once again, Solomon proves himself to be an abysmal director, and Hawke should probably look into new representation,” say Blu-ray.com.

“There is literally nothing redeemable about Getaway, besides the fact that, at 97 minutes, you won't waste your whole day on it,” say The Playlist. Hear that? “Literally nothing redeemable”.

“Even without the terrible dialogue, the movie probably wouldn't have worked, as the car chases, impressive at first, quickly become repetitive,” say Las Vegas Weekly, while The Hollywood Reporter say it’s a “Brainless chase flick” that “doesn't even offer guilty pleasures.”

All in all, it’s clear to see that Courtney Solomon and Yaron Levy – the directing team behind this getaway that lead to a car crash – have managed to royally fluff their lines with this one. Don’t even go and see if for a laugh, seriously.
