Eminem’s never made a secret of the fact that he’s had a troubled relationship with his mother, Debbie Mathers. He’s been very vocal in interviews and lyrics, accusing her of prescription drug addiction, paranoia and neglect. Rapper Eminem, real name Marshall Mathers, has dedicated some pretty scathing songs to Debbie in the past, including the particularly brutal ‘Cleaning Out My Closet.’ The song, which includes the lyrics, "Now I would never diss my own momma just to get recognition, Take a second to listen ‘fore you think this record is dissin’, But put yourself in my position; just try to envision, Witnessin’ your momma poppin’ prescription pills in the kitchen."

In the track Mathers also describes himself as a "victim of Munchausen’s Syndrome," a form of child abuse in which a parent regularly creates fabrications that their child is ill to gain attention for themselves.

While Mathers has maintained his stance on his mother’s poor parenting since his career took off in the late 90’s, Debbie has always denied the image that he created for her. In her book, ‘My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem,’ Debbie Mathers maintains that she supported her son fully throughout his early career. She describes the period that he began giving less than complimentary interviews about her, accusing her of neglecting him as a child. She writes, “At first I went along with it for Marshall’s sake - if I made one mistake as a mother, it was giving in to my eldest son’s every whim…He never knew his father and I did all I could to make up for it. I wasn’t happy when he made up a whole new life for himself - what mother wants to be known as a pill-popping alcoholic who lives on welfare? To tell the truth, I was heartbroken.”

However, it seems as though the mother and son’s 15 year feud has finally come to an end. On Mother’s Day Eminem debuted his new Spike Lee directed music video to his single, ‘Headlights,’ in which he tells the story from his mother’s point of view as she is barred from her son. Eminem raps, “Never thinking about who what I said hurt, in what verse, My mom probably got it the worst, The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we were, Did I take it too far?” adding, “But regardless I don’t hare you ‘cause, Ma, You’re still beautiful to me, ‘cause you’re my mom. At the end of the video, Eminem hugs his mother.

We’re pleased to see that the 41 year old rapper has finally reconnected with his mother. Next thing we know he’ll be writing love songs to Kim. Who would have thought we'd ever see the day?
