Emile Hirsch is ''overjoyed'' after becoming a dad for the first time.

The 'Lone Survivor' star opened up about his newborn son, Valor, for the first time since his former flame gave birth in Florida last month, at the premiere of his new movie at AFI (American Film Institute) Fest 2013 in Hollywood last night (12.11.13), and gushed about his ''cute'' baby boy.

The 28-year-old actor told UsMagazine.com: ''I have always wanted a kid. So I am thrilled. Overjoyed!''

Asked how the tot is doing, he replied: ''Cutest. Cute as cute can be.''

It was previously revealed that Emile met the mother of his child at an Oscars after party in Los Angeles in February, and although they only enjoyed a brief fling, the actor plans to be a hands-on father.

An insider said he is ''doing the right thing and will be taking care of her and his baby financially.''

The source added: ''He's trying to be a good guy in the situation. He still has love for the girl - it's just his schedule and life did not fit in with having a relationship.''

The 'Into The Wild' star looked happy and relaxed as he brought his son with him to run errands in Cape Canaveral, Florida earlier this month.

Emile has previously dated actresses Amanda Seyfried, Ellen Page and Elisha Cuthbert.
