Ellie Goulding recently narrowly escaped drowning in a frozen lake in Norway, after a vehicle she and another passenger were travelling in crashed through the thin ice and sank moments later.
The 29 year old English pop star uploaded a photo to her Instagram account of a van half-submerged by frozen water once they had escaped to safety in an accident that happened almost three weeks ago. “Throwback to a few weeks ago when myself and @conormcdphoto nearly ended up in a lake in -30... Note to self don't drive a BV206 over a frozen lake (sic).”

Her travelling companion, photographer Conor McDonnell, also shared the same picture via his own Instagram account. However, he went into a bit more detail about the dangerous incident, detailing how he and Ellie had to scramble through the roof in order to escape the sinking vehicle.
“So, me and @elliegoulding weren't going to post about this but we decided that it's too mad of a story not to tell,” the photographer captioned the picture which he shared late on Monday (January 25th). “This photo is from when we were in Norway a few weeks ago.”
“That moment when you're in -25C in the middle of nowhere in Norway in the pitch black and your belt wagon crashes through the ice in the middle of a lake and you have to emergency evacuate through the roof.”
“’Oh s**t we're in’ was my first thought. Second was to take photos. We were in the front cabin. That is pretty much under water in this photo. A few minutes later it was all completely gone under the water and ice for good.”
Over the last few weeks, McDonnell has shared a number of images of the pair hiking across mountains in the Tyin-Filefjell region of Norway, where temperatures can plummet to as low as -32C.
