Ellie Goulding took responsibility for the iTunes Festival's 24th night.
Ellie Goulding returned to home turf last night to play at London's iTunes Festival, representing the 24th headline artist to perform at the month of free concerts at Camden's Roundhouse venue.
Ellie Returned To Play The iTunes Festival.
The 26 year-old singer is currently on a high after her latest single, 'Burn,' from her upcoming album Halcyon went straight to the top of the charts in August, marking the first No.1 single for the Herefordshire-born star.
Boosted by the promising success of her new record, Ellie's Roundhouse show was an energetic affair. The singer switched from being bashful and unassuming to bolshy and confident as she bashed a giant drum whilst wearing white Doc Marten boots, print trousers and a black crop top.
The Gig Showcased Ellie's Mix Of Sounds.
The show marked her stage of transition, from sweet-voiced 'Starry Eyed' singer to the more dubstep/electronic sound she adopted when she was dating electro DJ Skrillex. However, the mix-up isn't jarring, rather Ellie and her band lay on a full English breakfast of genres for the adoring crowd to bop to.
The Telegraph concurs, "these opposing personas and juxtaposing music styles complimented each other well, proving that two Ellie Gouldings might just be better than one." The audience were treated to some early tracks from her upcoming second album Halcyon, which sounded synthy and more akin to her electronic reinvention than to the sweeter ballads of her earlier career.
The Audience Were Treated To New Songs From Halcyon.
Ellie strode about the stage in her heavy boots and engaged the crowd, though admitted "No, I can't be cool, I tried" to laughter from the crowd. As such a prominent star on the UK roster, it's hard to believe that Goulding has only made two albums. The melange of sounds worked well and the performance didn't feel forced or drawn out.
Sometimes the sound was pared back to allow Ellie's distinctive, raspy voice to take precedent and this was when the crowd really saw how all the computer bleeps and bloops and the many stage lights were just afterthoughts; Goulding's voice didn't exactly need the embellishment. Tonight we saw a star comfortbale with her genre-straddling sound and hungry for experimentation, We wait with excited ears.
