Ellie Goulding and Dougie Poynter have got matching skull tattoos.

The couple have both been inked with a inch-long skull and crossbones on their middle fingers and the McBusted musician managed to make a play on the blonde beauty's name when he shared the image of the pair's digits.

Accompanying a picture of their hands showing off their latest inked additions, he wrote: ''Skullin ell (sic)''

Ellie also shared the same image but she opted to let the digits do the talking by omitting a caption.

The pair got the tattoos done at a parlour in Birmingham, England, before enjoying a shopping spree around the city's Bullring Shopping Centre.

The 28-year-old stunner has several inkings on her body and last April her celebrity tattooist Mark Mahoney, of Shamrock Social Club in Los Angeles, revealed one of the 'Burn' hitmaker's latest inkings - an intricate Lotus on her rib cage.

In a caption attached to a black and white photograph, he wrote: ''Lotus craze on the homegirl @elliegoulding thanks for the laughs. (sic)''

Meanwhile, Ellie and Dougie recently celebrated the McBusted star being four years sober.

Posting a photo of her boyfriend, she captioned it: ''This amazing man is four years sober today.

''What a legend @idougahole (sic)''.
