Ellen Degeneres has a new love in her life - a pound puppy.

The comedienne-turned-chat show host has yet to name the pooch but at present she's calling him OAKLAND after the name of the shelter she picked him up from.

Degeneres was sitting waiting to be interviewed on a San Francisco, California, TV show when she saw an adopt-a-pet ad and decided to claim the border collie she saw on the screen.

Ellen is now asking viewers of her hit new daytime chat show to come up with a proper name for the puppy.
