A source told HELLO! magazine: ''It is very sad and they tried to make it work but there were just too many issues in the way.
''Elizabeth is taking it one day at a time. She will always be extremely fond of Shane.''
Rumours stemmed from a mystery tweet Shane, 44, posted online. He wrote: ''The past should be the past & stay there. It destroys the future. [sic]

The actress gave the former sports star a second chance after reportedly finding intimate text messages on his mobile phone while packing for a trip to his native Australia.
