Ed Sheeran's second studio album 'X' is flying off the shelves.

The 23 year-old singer/songwriter entered the U.K. charts on Sunday (June 29th) at No.1 after the newly released 12-tack set became the fastest-selling album of 2014.

In reaching this milestone, Sheeran overtook Coldplay's hugely successful six studio album 'Ghost Stories.'

'X,' which was released June 20th, sold more than 182,000 copies in U.K. over the last seven days, clearly beating Coldplay's opening week score back in May by 14,000 copies, the Official Chart Company reports.

The album also contains the hit singles 'One' and 'Sing,' which earned Sheeran his first ever U.K. No.1 single upon its release earlier this month.

'The A-Team' singer, who is currently performing at the Glastonbury Festival, took to Twitter to thank his 9.74 million followers for their support.

"182k sold in the UK week one making it the fastest selling album of the year," he tweeted. "I'm on cloud 9 and keep laughing at everything. Love you all."

Coming in the 2nd spot was Sam Smith's 'In The Lonely Hour,' and closely following was American singer Lana Del Rey with 'Ultraviolet.'

Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' still holds a strong position in 4th, and 'Caustic Love' by Paolo Nutini rounds off the top 5.
