Drew Barrymore fans shouldn't expect updates from the star on Twitter or Facebook any time soon - the actress hates the "lack of privacy" on social networking sites.
The 35 year old refuses to sign up to any of the popular websites - used by famous fans including Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Alba and Eva Longoria Parker - because she much prefers keeping in touch with her pals by telephone.
Barrymore admits she's also scared by the amount of personal information stored on the sites - and she's sure the tell-all culture will eventually kill the mystery of romance.
She tells Britain's Marie Claire magazine, "The fact that I'm begging for a phone call is pathetic in this age of technology. Plans are made by text - I can't stand it.
"I just don't like this compulsive, instantaneous, over-information, lack-of-privacy, weirdo aspect of the world. If you meet someone, they already know everything.
"What about showing up on the date and saying, 'What do you do for a living? Who are your friends?' Yes, you can avoid maybe a serial killer, but who f**king knows? I am a romantic and it scares me."
