The Bosses Of Spanish Language Tv Network Univision Have Chosen To No Longer Air The Miss Universe Organization's Pageants Following Comments Co-owner Donald Trump Recently Made About Mexican Immigrants To America.
The news comes a day after Colombian star J Balvin cancelled his Miss USA performance in July (15) after learning of Trump's remarks during his bid to become a presidential candidate in the next U.S. election.
The property tycoon and reality TV star upset a lot of people when he suggested in his speech that the Mexicans coming to America were not the country's best people and explained he wanted to build a wall between the U.S. and Mexico and make Mexico pay for it.
Univision executives, who have aired the Miss USA pageant and other beauty contests organised by Trump's company, released a statement on Thursday (25Jun15) distancing themselves from the Miss Universe Organization.
It reads: "Today, the entertainment division of Univision Communications Inc. announced that it is ending the Company's business relationship with the Miss Universe Organization, which is part-owned by Donald J. Trump, based on his recent, insulting remarks about Mexican immigrants.
"At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country. We will not be airing the Miss USA pageant on July 12th or working on any other projects tied to the Trump Organization."
Responding to the statement, an angry Trump took to Twitter and wrote, "Univision wants to back out of signed @MissUniverse contract because I exposed the terrible trade deals that the U.S. makes with Mexico. I love Mexico but not the unfair trade deals that the US so stupidly makes with them. Really bad for US jobs, only good for Mexico."
