Demi Lovato believes she is ''here'' to raise awareness of mental health issues.
The 'Skyscraper' hitmaker - who has openly spoken up about her treatment for drug addiction, self-harm and an eating disorder - believes she was always meant to use her singing as a ''platform'' to speak up about mental health.
Addressing the crowd at her first Lovato Scholarship Benefit fundraiser on Wednesday (18.03.15) in a video obtained by PerezHilton.com, she said: ''My whole life - all I've wanted to do is help. And I knew that singing could be a platform. And I thought that singing was the loudest I was going to get. It wasn't until I started talking and sharing my story that I realised it was really reaching people.
''So that's what I believe I'm here to do. I believe every single person in this room; whether you are here as one of my friends or whether you are here in the audience tonight or whether you're working in the crew. You're here and you're helping; this is incredible.''
Meanwhile, the 22-year-old singer recently celebrated three years sober and paid tribute to her ''incredible'' boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama.
Alongside a picture of the couple, she wrote: ''I wish I could put into words how grateful I am for this man right here. But my love has grown to a level that words could never possibly express how much this man completes me. He's loved me the way I never thought I deserved to be loved and with this day marking my 3rd year sober...
''After sharing my ups, putting up with my downs and supporting my recovery... he still never takes credit and I want the world to know how incredible his soul is. I really wouldn't be alive today without him. I love you Wilmer.''
