Funnyman David Walliams is determined to complete a challenging 215 mile (346 kilometres) charity swim after witnessing the plight of an orphan in Africa.
The Little Britain star is preparing to tackle England's River Thames next month (Sep11) to raise money for U.K. charity Comic Relief, which raises money for good causes.
Walliams visited Kenya last month (Jul11) to see how the money is used, and he was shocked to discover one little boy he met, named Phillip, had lived on the streets after both his parents died.
And the comedian hopes to raise as much sponsorship cash as possible to help fund the Hope for Victoria Children (Hovic) centre, which the youngster uses as a refuge.
Walliams tells Britain's The Sun, "This centre, as inspiring as it is, can cope with only 160 children at any one time - so more places like this are needed.
"For every Phillip rescued, you also rescue from the same fate any kids he will have. It is the way to break a cycle. Just a fiver could provide a month's meals for a street kid in Kenya, a tenner could pay for a day's schooling for 30 youngsters.
"So when I'm pounding down the Thames like a lunatic and you get the chance to sponsor me, please just remember the power of what you can achieve. If you were standing in front of a boy like Phillip and knew you could help him, you'd do it like a shot. This is no different."
