Next up was her co-star Amy Adams who stars as 'Irving's love interest 'Sydney Prosse', the 39 year-old took home 'Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy', beating the iconic Meryl Streep.

Adams repeated several times, "Thank you so much", before speaking directly to her director to thank him personally for "writing such great roles for women, for letting the world know a princess can punch."

Then came the feature film awards and the film's already successful night did not slow down as it was honoured with the coveted prize of 'Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy'.

Accepting the award with the rest of the impressive team behind him was producer, Charles Roven, who gave a very emotional speech on the process of making the movie.

"This film wouldn't have been possible" he says, "and, of course, the award has to be shared with David O.Russell."

"We had the privilege of telling this particular story about the art of survival, about resilience, and about reinvention," he said, referring to O.Russell's "love and passion for these flawed but indomitable characters is etched on every frame of the film."

Roven concluded the accolade by calling the 'American Hustle' cast a "dream team".

Congratulations!
