The Foo Fighters are set to headline the iconic Pyramid stage at the event in England on the Friday night (26Jun15), and West is due to follow suit the following night (27Jun15).

The rapper's slot caused a backlash when it was announced, with an online petition calling for his set to be axed garnering more than 130,000 signatures, and Grohl is convinced it was because of the West's personality rather than his hip-hop background.

Grohl tells Britain's The Sun newspaper, "I think maybe Kanye's personality might be harder to swallow than his music. But these are the moments that make for great moments in the history of rock 'n' roll... One of the things I love about Glastonbury is the diversity in the line-up. There's everyone from Florence (and the MAChine) to Kanye West to Lionel Richie.

"Does hip-hop have a place at a festival? Yes it does. I remember watching Public Enemy at the Reading Festival in 1992 and it didn't seem to be a problem. I don't think there should be any lines between any genre because that's what makes Glastonbury so exciting.

"You've got more attention on that Saturday night set from Kanye than maybe anything else. Who knows what will happen?... He could walk out there and have 100,000 people bottle him on stage or he could walk out there and show the world that nothing else matters except for that moment. And I'm sure that is what he will do... To me there is nothing more punk rock than having him stand on stage in front of 100,000 people after thousands of people petition for him not to be there."

Glastonbury Festival runs from 26 to 28 June (15).
