As the release of the 24th James Bond movie Spectre approached, Daniel Craig was quoted as saying he'd happily do several more 007 films, then saying he'd rather cut himself with broken glass, then finally relenting and noting that he'll make up his mind later.

Yes, the 47-year-old actor is notorious for honestly expressing his thoughts, which keeps the press on its toes. And you can hardly blame him for wavering. "This has been two years in the making, so realistically speaking, I went from Skyfall onto this. There wasn't a gap for me," Craig says, noting that Spectre's scale made it even more epic to make. "We didn't have a choice, we had to be bigger and better. With Skyfall, we set something in motion, and we wanted to go a bit further with it and experiment a bit more. But it's a Bond movie. You've got to make it look as beautiful and as glamorous as possible."

Craig is never apologetic about 007's flaws ("Let's not forget that he's actually a misogynist"), and he was happy to have a Bond girl his age this time around, saying, "We're talking about Monica Bellucci, for heaven's sake. When someone like that wants to be a Bond girl, you just count yourself lucky!"

For him, these are the things that make playing the character tricky to play. "The best acting is when you're not concerned about the surface. And Bond is the opposite of that," he says. "You have to be bothered about how you're looking. It's a struggle. I know that how Bond wears a suit and walks into a room is important. But as an actor I don't want to think about what I look like."

So what will Craig do once the promotional tour opening Spectre ends?

"Literally, just have a holiday," he says "It's fair enough, no? I just want to switch my brain off. What usually happens is it's 6am on a Sunday and I'm bolt upright in bed thinking that I've got to go to work. It's about switching that feeling off, turning the alarm off and going to sleep. I drink a lot more too. Actually, I've started this week."
