The latest incarnation of Bond - James Bond Skyfall - enjoyed its American premiere last night in NYC, and John Logan, the film's writer, was on hand to answer some questions regarding James Bond's sexuality. But do we really care?

Answering questions from The Hollywood Reporter regarding a scene in which Bond eludes to a history of homosexuality during a confrontation with the film's villain, brilliantly played by Javier Bardem, Logan said, "Some people claim it's because I'm, in fact, gay but not true at all, Sam and I were discussing, there were so many scenes where Bond goes mano-a-mano with the villain, whether it's Dr. No or Goldfinger or whatever, and there's been so many ways to do a cat-and-mouse and intimidate Bond, and we thought, what would truly make the audience uncomfortable is sexual intimidation; playing the sort of homoerotic card that is sort of always there subtextually with characters like Scaramanga in Man With the Golden Gun or Dr. No. So we just decided that we should play the card and enjoy it."

Bond's sexuality, be it straight, gay, bisexual or asexual is really none of our business. As we approach 2013, talks of the first black James Bond are in full swing, with Idris Elba mooted to be the next 007, so if there is to be a gay, or black Bond in the near future, then we salute the spy franchise for moving with the times.
