Daft Punk’s mysterious ingenuity worked a treat as their long-awaited comeback single Get Lucky, featuring Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams, stormed to number one in the UK singles charts – their first singles chart topper in the country and the biggest weekly sales total in 2013 so far, with 155,000 copies sold.

It had only taken Daft Punk two days to reach third spot in the charts last weekend, having released the song on Friday, April 19th, and taking in 50,000 sales on those first two days alone. The comeback of the French electro duo had a knock-on effect for the rest of their material in the UK too, with their 2001 album Discovery jumping up to 23 in the charts. The success of Get Lucky meant that it was sayonara to the top spot for Rudimental’s Waiting All Night, which fell to second spot. Will.I.Am’s Thatpower, meanwhile, also dropped a place to 3, after debuting at 2 the weekend before. Shooting upwards however was Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s I Need Your Love, which rose to fourth spot. The eighth top 10 single from Harris’ LP 18 Months, it marks a new record for the most top 10 singles to come from one album.

In the album chart, Emeli Sande’s Our Version of Events spent its 63rd consecutive week in the UK album top 10, a new record for a debut album that beats The Beatles 62 weeks for their debut Please, Please Me.
