The critics may have been fond of it but the third season of 'Cougar Town' was less than impressive figures wise in its return to air as viewers struggled to find enthusiasm for the show. It's star Courteney Cox has been doing the promotional rounds and then some in support of the program, no doubt eager to dodge the now wearyingly familiar accusation that there's not much to her or her former 'Friends' co-stars outside of the seminal show that finished in 2003.
'Cougar Town' in the first two series looked like it might be the one to finally crack it for Cox, particularly when it was announced that it would be renewed for a third season. However Usa Today reports that the ratings on its seasonal premiere last night were not good, scoring a worst-yet 4.8 million viewers which was a drop of nearly three million from the show before it 'Last Man Standing.'
At least Cox can count the critics as being on her side; 'Newsday' said "Cox remains a very engaging lead, and her supporting cast is rock solid," while TV Guide commented "Witty and wacky--but emphasizing the wacky above all--this sharp-tongued, sweet-souled sitcom picks up without losing a (heart)beat," and The Huffington Post stated "If you've given Cougar Town a real shot and found that it's not for you, fair enough; but if you already love the goofy-sweet-smart flavor of this show, you'll find a lot to like about the new season".
