Sir Cliff Richard's home in Berkshire, England has been raided by police as part of an investigation into a sex abuse allegation.

Officers descended on the music legend's property on Thursday (14Aug14) and a number of items were removed. The singer was not at the property at the time of the swoop.

A spokesman for local police has confirmed the search relates to an investigation into an allegation of sex abuse against an underage boy dating back to the 1980s.

The representative says, "Police have gained entry to a property in the Sunningdale area of Berkshire. Officers are currently searching the property. A search warrant was granted after police received an allegation of a sexual nature dating back to the 1980s involving a boy who was under the age of 16 at the time. No one has been arrested and the owner of the property was not present."

Cops have stressed the probe is not connected to Operation Yewtree, a wide-ranging inquiry involving a number of high-profile suspects which was launched after late British entertainer Sir Jimmy Savile was unmasked as a serial paedophile following his death in 2011.
