Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen has seen off competition from her mentor Justin Bieber to hold onto the number one spot in the U.K. singles chart.
Former Canadian Idol runner-up Jepsen shot to the top of the charts last week (ends08Apr12) with her hit Call Me Maybe after a video of Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez dancing to the track went viral.
Bieber boosted Jepsen's career by helping her land a record deal in February (12) - but now she has upstaged the Baby hitmaker, whose track Boyfriend debuted in second place.
Gotye's collaboration with Kimbra, Somebody That I Used To Know, stayed put at three, Usher entered in fourth with Climax, and Nicki Minaj's Starships dropped to five.
In the albums chart, soul singer Adele's 21 reclaimed the top spot, bumping Minaj's Pink Friday Roman Reloaded down to second place.
Boys & Girls by the Alabama Shakes made its first entry at three, Emeli Sande's Our Version of Events remained at four, and Lana Del Rey's Born to Die came fifth.
