According to industry publication The Wrap, Howard only recently received an offer for the project after long being rumored for a part. After recently taking time off to start a family, she is reportedly ready to field movie offers again and already has a strong credits list that includes a stellar 2011 with The Help and 50/50.

Her previous movies include Spider-Man 3, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and Lady in the Water.

It marks the latest bold move from Universal regarding the fourth Jurassic Park movie. Steven Spielberg was long rumored to direct the project before the studio hired Colin Trevorrow to take the helm. The filmmaker has little to no experience handling big-budgets and is best known for his comedy sci-fi Safety Not Guaranteed, with New Girl's Jake Johnson.

Trevorrow penned the new movie with his frequent collaborator Derek Connolly, while Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley produce.

The original movie, Jurassic Park, was a bona fide classic and grossed $970 million worldwide in 1993. Two sequels followed, the respectable The Lost World in 1997 and the not so good Jurassic Park 3 in 2001.

A recent 3D re-release of the original film brought in $114 million globally, signalling the appetite remains for the best-loved dinosaur franchise.

Jurassic World hits theaters on June 12, 2015.
