Britney Spears and Charlie Ebersol are ''still friends''.

The 'Toxic' hitmaker and the 33-year-old producer recently called it quits because their priorities had changed, a source has claimed.

The insider said: ''Relationships are hard. Sometimes they don't work out. These are two very busy people leading two very busy lives. They're focusing on other priorities right now.''

Whilst another source added to PEOPLE magazine: ''It was obvious to everyone that it was going to happen. They're still friends.

''Everyone thought he might end up asking her to marry him [but] it just faded away, and they moved apart.''

Meanwhile, an insider previously revealed the 33-year-old star and Charlie split because he didn't want to get married.

The source shared: ''Britney had been pressuring Charlie for the last several months about getting married. She is at a point where she wants to have another child, and very much wants to be married again. Charlie had been very honest about not being ready to get married.''

Another added: ''Britney has a lot of issues, and it's a lot for a young single bachelor to take on. The fact that Britney is still under a conservatorship is obviously very telling.

''She can't manage her own affairs. Charlie didn't want to become a father figure in her life. She was demanding it and made him feel trapped.''
