In a Marvel double whammy, Cooper's confirmed talks also came with the news that Elizabeth Olsen is in negotiations to play the Scarlet Witch in 'Avengers 2'
Marvel studios have two highly anticipated superhero ensemble films coming out in the next few years, with Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron heading to the big screen in the next two years. With casting for both movies almost under wraps, the Disney-owned company is just adding the finishing touches to the films, including finalising the full cast; enter Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Olsen, who are the latest names to be strongly linked with a role in one of the films.
Bradley Cooper and Elizabeth Olsen are both in talks with Marvel to star in their upcoming films
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cooper is in talks with Marvel Studios to voice the character Rocket Raccoon in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie, whilst Olsen is in discussions with Joss Whedon and co. to play the villainous Scarlet Witch in the sequel to The Avengers. Olsen's involvement was first announced by Bleeding Cool on Tuesday (20 August) before being confirmed by THR, with Cooper's involvement with GotG being first announced in Latino Review on Thursday (22 August). Marvel have made no comment on the potential appointments just yet.
Cooper's character, an anthropomorphic raccoon with a penchant for big guns and flying space ships, will be entirely CGI, with Cooper only providing the voice parts for the character.
He won't be the only full-CGI character in the film though, as the sci-fi adventure will also feature a character named Groot, an ent (part tree, part man) that will potentially be voiced by Vin Diesel. Both characters are from the comic series and are firm fan favourites within the realms of geekdom, so even though they sound pretty ridiculous from an outsider's perspective, i should hopefully make sense in the film.
Olsen on the other hand will be one of the few new additions to the Avengers cast, starring as the character that initially began life in the X Men comic book series. In the comics, she is the brother of speedster Quicksilver, who will also be appearing in The Avengers 2 as well as the upcoming X Men: Days of Future Past. Did someone say X Men/Avengers crossover? Probably not considering Fox still own the rights to the main X Men characters.
Guardians of the Galaxy has already begun filming and is expected in cinemas on August 1, 2014. Avengers 2: Age of Ultron is due out in 2015.
