Brad Pitt has added to his resume of charitable activism by donating the money he had with him during his filming for 'World War Z' in Dorset, England to a Southampton neonatal unit.
The Hollywood A-Lister donated £700 to the unit at Southampton Hospital after gift shop worker and charity organiser Tricia Wilson-Hughes asked one of his security team if he could make a donation of 'maybe £50'. 'I was going round the crew as they passed the gift shop', she told BBC News. 'They were putting in £5 notes... one asked me if we took cards.' She said she managed to collect £40 from the crew but was desperate to do something more for the baby unit where a friend's baby was being treated for gastroschisis. 'I wasn't too bothered if I didn't see Brad Pitt... [but] I felt I had to do something for the charity', she said. '[The guard] came back about 10 minutes later and said this is off Brad for your charity. He said there's £700 in there, I couldn't believe it; I was completely dumbstruck. He said if he had more he would have given it.'
Ms Wilson-Hughes says that she is 'in awe' of the star, particularly when he said he would also help collect for the cause and have a larger donation sent over from LA where he lives. Brad is well known for his humanitarian work, previously supporting funding for embryonic stem-cell research, AIDS and poverty campaigns, environmental movements and same-sex marriage. He and fiancé Angelina Jolie even have their own Jolie-Pitt Foundation in order to aid the many humanitarian causes they believe in.
