Brad Pitt became the first male face of Chanel No.5 today (Monday 16, October), but his performance for the prestigious smell has divided critics and fans alike, reports Reuters. The video is part of a $10 million (6.2 million pounds) advertising campaign for which he was paid an alleged $7 million.

Pitt has come into his own since Fight Club, the film that really sent him on the road of comedy acting, as well as some action movies, and a couple of tear-jerkers in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Tree of Life. He was delightfully silly in Inglorious Bastards, and brilliantly pathetic in Burn After Reading. But has he nailed sexy after featuring so prominently as a comic actor? "It's not a journey. Every journey ends, but we go on. The world turns, and we turn with it. Plans disappear, dreams take over. But wherever I go, there you are, my luck, my fate, my fortune. Chanel No.5, inevitable," says Pitt, wistfully, donning a relaxed shirt and shoulder length hair.

Most say no, and we’d have to agree; It’s just weird, and smacks of pretention. We do realise that this is a perfume advert, and they’re intrinsically arty and full of cliché, but, perhaps, this one has gone a little too far. Go back to films, Brad. Nice one.
