Bonnie Tyler has been chosen as the UK’s entrant for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, to be held in Malmö, Sweden on May 18, 2013. The Guardian reported the news today (March 7, 2013) that the 51 year old singer has been selected to sing a song called ‘Believe In Me’ at the high profile event and will be hoping to better Engelbert Humperdinck’s efforts last year. That shouldn’t be too much of a challenge, given that he just about scraped second-to-last.

Eurovision fans hell-bent on success will no-doubt be shaking their heads in sorry dismay as the choice is made to rely on another veteran singer to bring the UK to glory but Tyler seems confident of success, telling the press “I am truly honoured and delighted to be able to represent my country at Eurovision and especially with such a fabulous song. I promise to give this everything that I've got for the UK.” Then again, they’re all pretty confident to start off with, aren’t they? It’s only when the slow, depressing ring of ‘nil points’ (said in sadistic, mocking French accent) starts to echo around the venue that that confidence starts to fade.
