Musical genius Bob Dylan celebrated his 75th birthday yesterday (May 24th 2016) just days after he released his 37th studio album 'Fallen Angels'. And while he's not quite as popular as he was in the 60s and 70s, his early masterpieces will never be forgotten.

bob DylanBob Dylan is one of the greatest artists of all time

The artist... This Minnesota born songwriter is probably most famous for his songs 'Blowin' In The Wind' and 'The Times They Are a-Changin''. He re-defined what it means to be a folk musician, and injects real world issues into his lyrics. He's also an accomplished artist, having had various drawings and paintings displayed in art galleries.

The album... Released in 1963, 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' is Dylan's second ever album following his self-titled debut. It reached number one in the UK album charts and was subsequently certified platinum. It is widely regarded as the album that launched his career and one of the most important releases of all time.

Why you need to hear it... It was a huge turning point for music. Here we had a dude that really couldn't sing that well, but still somehow managed to capture the hearts and emotions of millions across the world with his lyrics about nuclear warfare and civil rights.

The best song... 'Blowin' In The Wind': It may be trite to say that's the best song but it's one of the most important pieces of songwriting ever. It's thought of as a 'protest' song, with its profound thoughts on the meaning of life and the purpose of war.

Where are they now? He's released no less than 35 albums since 'The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan' and, despite being 75, it doesn't look like he's slowing down any time soon. In fact, he'll be making a special appearance at Desert Trip festival this October with The Rolling Stones and Paul McCartney.
