Beyonce Knowles' 'Run the World (Girls)' started out as a ''joke''.

The 2011 single - which reached number 29 in the US Billboard chart and 11 on the UK singles chart - features a sample from 'Pon De Floor', a track producer Diplo made with his group Major Lazer, and he admits he never expected it to end up as part of such a big hit.

He said: ''I still think a lot of people don't even realise where that song came from.

''That song never really had a push. It was a song we did, kind of like a funny kind of a joke song.''

Diplo admits working with Beyonce - who gave birth to her and husband Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy in January - was a surreal experience because he ''couldn't believe'' he was in the studio with the pop superstar.

He told BBC Newsbeat: ''We had to finish up a few records we were working with her on.

''That was super weird man. Like I remember we were in the studio working with her and I still couldn't believe it.''
