Jay Z's mixed Samsung bag 2. If we're talking marketing, there's no way to ommit Jay Z from the list. Besides being married to what has to be one of the smartest people in the game, Jay Z is one media mogul who clearly knows what he's doing. Despite ample promotion, his album Magna Carta Holy Grail could have suffered the same fate as ARTPOP - lots of fans online, not enough sales. Instead of risking it, Hov went and struck a deal with Samsung. Skipping the album sales charts and promotional stunts altogether, Jay gave his album directly to the people - those people being a million Samsung users, three days ahead of Magna Carta's official release. Sure, that meant that the million copies didn't count towards MCHG's chart performance, but with $5 million in sure sales on the day of release, we doubt Mr Carter was complaining at all.
Jay Z once again proved himself as a savvy businessman.
