He may be in the middle of his first experience of fatherhood with all the sleepless nights that entails, but Benedict Cumberbatch has said that he already wants more children with his wife Sophie Hunter.

The ‘Sherlock’ actor, 39, and his 37 year old wife welcomed their first son, Christopher Carlton, in June this year following their February wedding in their native England. Cumberbatch appeared on the ‘Graham Norton Show’ and admitted that he was already looking forward to having more children, joking that he wanted a “[Cumber]batch of boys”.

Speaking about how was enjoying fatherhood so far, he said: “It’s everything. I have a new life form that needs his father’s help in the world and his mother needs a little help once in a while.”

With series four of ‘Sherlock’ going into production in the new year, he’ll have to balance his home and work life, but he’s not concerned by this. “It’s what being a parent is about so it’s not an excuse to get away from what I am doing — it’s what I ought to be doing. After three and half hours of ‘Hamlet’, I think that’s okay.”

Cumberbatch appeared on the show alongside his Victor Frankenstein co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and James McAvoy in a chat that’s being broadcast on Friday night (November 27th) on BBC1.

He’s also currently doing promotional work ahead of another new movie, Black Mass, in which he stars opposite lead actor Johnny Depp. The latter, who plays crime boss James ‘Whitey’ Bulger, spoke about the excellent relationship that he and Cumberbatch struck up during filming.

Depp told BBC News this week: “He is a beautiful man of exceptional talent. He became like a real-life brother. The set-up we were playing was an unusual one - one brother becomes a politician, the other is king of the underworld. They still meet up for family dinners and church, just from opposing sides. It takes an actor with a lot of ability, like Benedict, to make that credible.”
