US Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, has been made editorial director of Condé Nast and will oversee all editorial content.
Anna Wintour has been named the new editorial director of Condé Nast.
The US Vogue editor-in-chief has been offered the promotion and will oversee all editorial decisions at the publishing empire just a year after she was made artistic director of Condé Nast worldwide, reports WWD.
Condé Nast chief executive Charles H. Townsend revealed the news in an address to the company's employees yesterday(23.07.14) which stated that current editorial director Tom Wallace will be leaving the company, with 64-year-old Anna taking over his role.
The announcement added that Condé Nast's President Robert A. Sauerberg Jr is also set to take on more responsibility at the publishing house.
He said: ''[Anna] will ensure that our content and culture remain at the forefront of our industry. Bob (Robert A. Sauerberg Jr) and I will rely on her for her insights and guidance as we build the team that will lead us into the future.''
The news comes just weeks after Anna slammed the demise of fashion originality at big Hollywood events and the boring ''business'' of designing for the red carpet.
She said during a talk for students at London's Central Saint Martins school last month: ''The red carpet, in the United States, has become too much of a business.
''It's a fact that celebrities are paid to wear everything, and to me that sometimes comes across as very manufactured and not individual.
''[Celebrities] have all these teams of people telling them what to do, what to wear, how to do their hair, make-up.
''And they're so scared of being criticised, whereas, you know, what's wrong with looking different? How many mermaid fishtail strapless sequin [gowns] can we see?''
