Angelina Jolie has spoken for the first time about the end of her decade long relationship with Brad Pitt.

The actress is currently in Cambodia, promoting new film First They Killed My Father and said that despite their divorce her and Pitt will always be “family”.

Speaking about the split to BBC World News, Jolie said: "I don’t want to say very much about that, except to say it was a very difficult time and we are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it

"Many, many people find themselves in this situation. My whole family, we’ve all being through a difficult time. My focus is my children, our children... and my focus is finding this way through.”

"We are and forever will be a family and so that is how I am coping,” she continued. “I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer.”

Jolie and Pitt began their relationship in 2005, but didn't marry until 2014. The former couple are parents to six children, son Maddox, who Jolie adopted from Cambodia in 2002, Pax, adopted from Vietnam, Zahara, adopted from Ethiopia, Shiloh, born in 2006 and twins Knox and Vivienne, born in 2008.
