As the release of Angelina Jolie's latest directorial effort, the WWII epic 'Unbroken,' approaches, there has been much discussion on the 39-year-old actress' transition to a behind the camera role, which is apparently going well for her personal life.

Jolie recently recalled her positive experience directing Brad Pitt

Jolie's latest project is the upcoming marriage-based drama 'By the Sea,' which she also wrote and stars in alongside her husband Brad Pitt. Filmed in Malta just after the couple tied the knot in August, the flick depicts a husband and wife trying to rekindle their dying marriage during a trip to Europe.

Although the Hollywood stars may depict a dysfunctional married couple, off-camera couldn't be any more different as Jolie recently revealed the unique process of directing her hubby "brought us closer."

"Sharing something in a deep artistic way, it's something I think is necessary for artistic couples," Jolie said to the New York Daily News. "I hadn't realized how good it would be for us."

The mother of six also spoke candidly of her positive experience working alongside Pitt, not just as a husband - but as a fellow actor as well.

"I had missed being that free as an actor, and to do that depth of work, and what a pleasure it was to do it with Brad, because I really saw him as an actor, not just the man I loved," she said. "In the end, it was an amazing thing, because there's no actor who wants to help me more, or push me more as an actress, or give me more as a director or writer than my husband, and there's no man I want to see succeed more than him. We were so there for each other."
