Currently promoting her upcoming movie, the dark Disney retake Maleficent, the actress discussed how she believed simply having a loving husband and kids was a fairytale, let alone becoming the world's highest paid actress with a career's worth of blockbusters under her belt.

"I never thought I'd have children," she told Elle. "I never thought I'd be in love, I never thought I'd meet the right person. Having come from a broken home-you kind of accept that certain things feel like a fairy tale, and you just don't look for them."

The actress spoke warmly of her fiancé and partner since 2005, the actor Brad Pitt, with whom she shares six children; three biological and three adopted. Stating that she has found her "person" in the 50 year-old actor, Jolie explained, "You get together and you're two individuals and you feel inspired by each other, you challenge each other, you complement each other, drive each other beautifully crazy."

"After all these years, we have history-and when you have history with somebody, you're friends in such a very real, deep way that there's such a comfort, and an ease, and a deep love that comes from having been through quite a lot together," the Tomb Raider star added.

Discussing her new movie Maleficent, a look at the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty from the eyes of the titular antagonist, Jolie revealed how involving her daughter Vivienne as the young Aurora conflicted with the couple's parental intentions and desire to steer their children away from the same career path.

"For young Aurora, they needed a child who wouldn't be fazed by the Mistress of All Evil hissing 'I don't like children' in her face. And my little Vivienne-we call her my shadow, because there's nothing I can do to shake her. I can be tired, I can be grumpy, I can be in a terrible mood, and she doesn't care. It's 'Mommy, Mommy,' and she'll cling to me," Jolie explained.

She warned fans not to expect more of the same from her children, saying "Brad and I made the decision that we wouldn't keep them from sets and the fun of making movies, but we wouldn't [glorify it either]-we wouldn't make it a good thing or a bad thing. But I would really prefer they do something else," she says.

Anyway, "after two days of it, Brad and I were so stressed we never wanted to do it again."

Angelina Jolie features in the June issue of Elle, which will be available from the 20th May. Maleficent will open on the 30th May in cinemas.
