Bad news for fans of Spidey: there will be no new film featuring him until 2018.
The Amazing Spider 3 starring Andrew Garfield as the heroic webslinger was set to hit cinemas in 2016, but the title has been pushed back another years so audiences will have to wait a fair amount longer before the follow up to the second film, which came out earlier this year.
Looks like Spidey won't be swinging back into cinemas for quite a while

The second film in the franchise, The Amazing Spiderman 2: Rise of Electro was released back in May, but didn't perform as well as Sony had hoped, despite raking in over $706 million worldwide. Whilst this seems like a staggering amount of money, it actually makes the film the lowest-earning Spiderman film including Sam Raimi's previous three starring Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
Whilst critics praised the film's all-star cast including Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan, they were unhappy that the film featuring too many characters and having a confusing and unfocused narrative.
Yet hope isn't completely lost for fans of the Spiderman comics, because the long promised villain-centric Sinister Six movie will now be released on November 11th 2016 instead. Strong hints were dropped about the spin-off in Rise of Electro, but it remains to be seen who, if anyone, will return from the cast. On a similar note, the studio are still searching for a new Mary-Jane Watson, the long-time love of Peter Parker/Spiderman, after Shailene Woodley left the project.
At least comic book fans have Marvel's slew of upcoming releases to tide them over; they have an impressive five films scheduled for release between August 2014 and July 2016, including Avengers: Age of Ultron.
