The 'Drive Angry' actress is comfortable in the skin she's in.
Actress Amber Heard has openly voiced her feelings towards her sexuality in an interview with Elle. Reported by E! News, the 27 year-old, who now dates actor Johnny Depp, came out in 2010 and has since spoken about how although she doesn't see herself following a "standardised path," that's the way she likes life.
A Great Role Model, Amber Heard Is Proud Of Who She Is.
Speaking to the women's magazine, she spoke of how she has a tendency to shy away from the girl-next-door character types in favour of more active roles: "I try to play characters who are somehow empowered or strong," Heard said. "People want to put me in a wedding dress and make me the object of affection, but I'd much rather shoot the gun and save the world. I've always fought against what was expected of me as much as I could."
Heard & Depp Are A Couple, But She Doesn't Want To Be Defined By Her Boyfriend.
Whilst the actress has done her fair share of roles where her sex appeal is flaunted, such as a Playboy Bunny on NBC's The Playboy Club, the titular highschooler in horror All The Boys Love Mandy Lane, and the object of Depp's affections in The Rum Diary, she anticipates a host of roles that will emphasise her tough side. Fans can expect to see the Austin-born model as a double-agent in September's Machete Kills alongside Robert Rodriguez and as an assassin in Three Days To Kill; another action thriller due in 2014.
Heard Intends To Use Her Brain, Rather Than Her Looks, To Seek Out Roles.
Heard explained that her decision to publically come out as bisexual in 2010 meant people would neither pigeon-hole her as Depp's gal pal nor would anyone suspect she had anything to hide. Amber explained: "I didn't want to look like I was hiding anything. I'm not, and wasn't ever, ashamed." She dated Tasya van Ree from 2008 until 2012 and has never been shy about acknowledging her attraction to or relationships with women, despite the prejudice that sadly still exists.
Amber Is Not Ashamed Of Her Sexuality.
One to consistently flout sterotypes, Heard is proud of her life not quite fitting the template, having dropped out of Catholic high school at 17 to pursue and acting career: "I don't imagine myself, my work, or my life, fitting into any kind of standardised path," she said. "In fact, the idea of there even being a standard freaks me out a lot."
Her next movie, the techie-thriller Paranoia, alongside Gary Oldman, Harrison Ford and Liam Hemsworth will be released on 16th August.
