Country star Alan Jackson has been honoured in his hometown of Newnan, Georgia, with his own stretch of highway.

A five mile (eight kilometre) stretch of the I-85 was renamed in the singer's honour on Friday (09JUL04).

Jackson enthuses, "Over the years, I've had horses and dogs and even children named after me, but this is definitely the most honourable thing.

"It was a great place to grow up. I'm not sure I'm quite qualified for the main highway. Maybe they should've picked a dirt road or something."
