The singer has lamented that he "obviously" doesn't hate America in a new interview.
Adam Levine is a proud American, but even the proudest of Americans - and the proudest of any nationalist throughout the globe for that matter - must get a little fed up with their country from time to time when they have been foiled in their quest for reality TV success.
The Maroon 5 man has taken more than a little bit of criticism when he was heard muttering "I hate this country" under his breath after his two most promising performers - Judith Hill and Sarah Simmons - were eliminated from the last round of the competition this week. The singing competition judge pleaded his case in an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, which is due to air this Sunday (June 2).
"I'm very much okay with who I am and comfortable in my skin enough to embrace that even though I don't say everything the right way and you know, tend to be a bit impulsive with some of the words that I select," the 34-year-old revealed in his plea. He then went on to say in the interview, which was recorded before his slip of the tongue, that he is often "impulsive" when it comes to speaking, and can often commit to saying something without thinking it through first.
Levine hasn't left his reputation on the line with a pre-recorded interview though, as the singer also spoke with US Weekly (May 29) when he lamented that he "obviously" loves his country and that his comments came purely from "frustration." He added, "I am passionately invested in my team and want to see my artists succeed. Last night's elimination of Judith and Sarah was confusing and downright emotional for me and my comments were made based on my personal dissatisfaction with the results."
Levine probably hasn't lost many female fans regardless of his off-hand comments
