John Mayer Cancels Show Over Emergency Appendectomy

It is not fun being super ill at this time of the year, and for John Mayer things took a particularly nasty turn when he was rushed to hospital to undergo an emergency appendectomy this week, just hours before he was due for a live performance in New Orleans.

The 40-year-old singer went to hospital yesterday (December 5th 2017) to have his appendix removed following a presumed bout of appendicitis. The details surrounding his health are as yet unclear, but he was forced to reschedule a performance from the new Grateful Dead project Dead and Company.

'Early this morning, John Mayer was admitted into the hospital for emergency appendectomy forcing the Dead & Company December 5th concert in New Orleans to be postponed', Dead and Company said in a statement on Twitter. 'All tickets for the December 5 show will be honored for the rescheduled date. Information on the rescheduled date will be announced as soon as possible. Should ticketholders choose to seek a refund, they will be available at point of purchase.'

It's currently unclear as to how well he's recovering and whether or not he'll be fit enough to perform his next two shows tomorrow in Orlando and Friday in Fort Lauderdale. Bandmate and Grateful Dead founding member Bob Weir posted a message for his friend.

'Wishing a speedy recovery for John... Get well soon my friend', he wrote, alongside a picture of the pair of them on stage.

His recovery time depends on the type of surgery John has undergone to have the organ removed. Patients can remain in hospital for 1-5 days, and a full recovery can take days or even weeks. So it's unlikely he'll be back to end the second like of the Dead and Company tour, whether or not they'll carry on without him remains to be seen.
