George Michael Died From Natural Causes, Coroner's Report Concludes

Over two months after his passing, it has been revealed that the late pop singer George Michael died of natural causes, relating to diseases of the heart and liver, according to the official coroner’s report that was released on Tuesday (March 7th).

Specifically, the solo singer and former Wham! star suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and a fatty liver, the senior coroner for Oxfordshire, Darren Salter, told the Press Association later in the day.

A statement from Salter read: “Inquires into the death of George Michael have been concluded and the final post-mortem report received.”

“As there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty liver, the investigation is being discontinued and there is no need for an inquest or any further enquiries. No further updates will be provided and the family requests the media and public respect their privacy.”

George Michael died at the age of 53 at his home in Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, on Christmas Day last year. Thames Valley Police originally drew the conclusion that his death was unexplained but not suspicious, with an initial post-mortem examination proving inconclusive.

This led to Michael’s funeral being delayed by more than a month, the dismay of his grieving family and friends.

At the weekend, his former partner, Kenny Goss, told the Sunday Mirror: “I think his body just gave up. All these years, it was just weak. We just want closure, we want the funeral to happen, it's been a long time now.”

However, with the coroner now saying that a full inquest is unnecessary because the cause of death was natural, plans to finally lay the iconic singer to rest can now go ahead.
