Donald Glover Cast As Lando Calrissian In Han Solo Movie

Donald Glover has been cast as the young Lando Calrissian in the as-yet—untitled Han Solo Star Wars movie, Lucasfilm has announced.

The actor will star opposite Alden Ehrenreich, who has already been cast as Han Solo.

The film will depict Lando in his formative years, ‘as a scoundrel on the rise in the galaxy’s underworld — years before the events involving Han, Leia, and Darth Vader in The Empire Strikes Back and his rise to Rebel hero in Return of the Jedi’.

In a statement directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller said: “We’re so lucky to have an artist as talented as Donald join us.”

“These are big shoes to fill, and an even bigger cape, and this one fits him perfectly, which will save us money on alterations. Also, we’d like to publicly apologize to Donald for ruining Comic-Con for him forever.”

Glover is best known for creating and starring in FX series ‘Atlanta’ as well as appearing in comedy ‘Community’. He is also set to star in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming.

The actor is also a Grammy-nominated recording artist, for his 2013 album Because the Internet, released under the name Childish Gambino.

So far the only other name announced for the Star Wars spin-off is Alden Ehrenreich, who will play the young Han Solo.

Producers are also said to be currently casting an actress for an unknown leading role, with Zoe Kravitz, Tessa Thompson and Naomi Scott all reported to have undergone screen tests.
